Engineering in Aviation
Aviation is a business industry that is dedicated to manufacturing and operating aircraft. It is one kind of industry that makes us realize how we can save time traveling a very long distance. It is obvious that engineering is the fundamental component that enabled aviation to be successful. I did a research on how engineering made a huge impact on aviation industry. It took me around 2 days to find the vast outlying opportunities of engineering in aviation. I spoke with a Captain of a prestigious airliner for nearly an hour. We discussed the engineering aspects of the aviation and how engineering played an important role in the advancement of the airplane and the travel industry. I also had discussions with several professors who had impressive engineering backgrounds. I noted some technical terms which both sides had emphasized. And, I started to dig deep into those topics. Finally, on the second day, I came to a conclusion. So, I thought of sharing these valuable pieces of information that can definitely help you achieve your goals as an engineer.
Starting with aeronautical engineer, they have done a splendid job of manufacturing aircraft components and assembling them. The aircraft, once manufactured, must undergo routine checks and maintenance, carried out by Aircraft Maintenance Engineers(AME). Then, we must not forget how mechanical engineering has helped aviation with its components. Mechanical engineers have also contributed towards this. The supply of electricity is an essential requirement. This phrase alone defines the role of electrical engineering in aviation. For people at distant places, communication is necessary. We must be thankful to electronics and communication engineers for building a good network that enables faster and reliable communication over a long distance. Piloting an aircraft is not an easy task. And, it is very much difficult to fly an aircraft manually for a very long time. This defines the importance of computer science in aviation. The invention of auto-pilot systems, which reduced the task pressures of pilots, is definitely a blessing. And, of course, the civil engineers who have built airports and aerodromes for parking aircraft.
So, this explains the importance of engineering in the aviation industry. It has positive impacts as well as negative impacts. It excites me that things we learn like AI can be used in aviation at a level much closer to the user than you can think of. It is amazing how building large structures for the convenience of accommodating more passengers can create more revenue. Just like how good engineering contributed positively, poor engineering can also make negative impacts. You cannot imagine how a poor software engineering process brought down two big aircraft. You won't be able to realize how poor communication can make an adverse impact on aviation and risking the safety of passengers. You won't realize how a mechanical failure can make a big impact on safety.
So, to provide information in detail, I went live for an interactive session on 5 June 2020 at 4:30 pm. I knew there were many interested engineers out there. I tried to make it fruitful for their career. I also discussed about the various aspects in detail and had also explained how poor engineering issues took lives of people.
